Wallethub recently released a report that shows states with the biggest increases in unemployment due to COVID-19. To determine how severely COVID-19 has impacted unemployment in each state, the following metrics were factored into the calculations:
- Increase in Unemployment Insurance Initial Claims in 2020 vs. 2019
- Increase in Number of Unemployment Insurance Initial Claims in 2020
- Increase in Number of Unemployment Insurance Initial Claims Since Start of COVID-19 Crisis vs. the Same Period Last Year
With rankings closer to “1” being the states that have higher rates of unemployment due to COVID-19, and “52” being the states that have lower rates of unemployment, Kansas low/central ranking compared to the rest of the nation.
